Support WashCOG’s fight for transparency

Happy Holidays from the Washington Coalition for Open Government. We hope this time of year brings you love, peace, goodwill and a transparent government that works for you.

A plant sprouting from cash donations.

The Coalition had a transformative year in 2023. We worked hard, we brought new supporters and advocates to the cause, and we raised more money than at any time in our history. We have committed virtually all of our newfound resources to our Right to Know project, the first phase of which will roll out early next year with an alarming and chilling summary of the current state of the government’s multifaceted attacks on transparency and corresponding impetus toward secrecy.

Because we now face the strongest opposition to open government we have seen since Watergate, we still need funding assistance from you! For example, lawmakers now claim they have a “privilege” to withhold whatever information they see fit from their constituents, and two courts have agreed with them. This is a steady march to secrecy. We have sued the state to block it and believe we will prevail, but threats to transparency won’t stop there.

During this time of celebration and joy, please remember the Coalition is still a small organization, fighting a truly David and Goliath battle on your behalf in protecting the People’s Right to Know against the unlimited resources of the government committed to darkness. With lack of transparency and darkness comes the failure of our democracy. Please help us in our fight for the United States of America here in Washington.

Public records belong to the people and you have a right to know what government at all levels is doing in your name. In January, WashCOG will publish a comprehensive report on the state of transparency in Washington, and the results are alarming.

Please consider a donation at this time to help us continue the important work of ensuring your right to know. WashCOG is a 501(c)3 organization and your donation is fully tax-deductible.
